LiteStay started with a simple question: why should finding accommodation in Zimbabwe have to work exactly the way it does everywhere else?
Our experience in the accommodation and property sector has shown us the market from different sides. We have seen good properties struggle to get the visibility they deserve, hosts trying to reach the right guests, and travellers spending time searching for information before they can make a decision.
International platforms have changed the way people travel and book accommodation. They have made it easier for people around the world to discover places to stay. But they were built for global markets, and global platforms cannot always account for the realities of a local market like Zimbabwe.
Zimbabwe has its own way of communicating, paying and doing business. We believe our accommodation platform should understand that.
Communication is a good example. In Zimbabwe, WhatsApp, phone calls and direct conversations are a normal part of making arrangements. A guest may want to ask a host a question before deciding where to stay. A host may want to speak directly with a guest. That personal connection matters, especially when trust is part of the decision.
Payments are another part of the picture. Zimbabwe has developed its own payment environment, with local solutions and payment methods that people already understand and use every day. We wanted to build with that reality in mind rather than expecting Zimbabweans to adapt to systems designed primarily for other markets.
That is why we started LiteStay.
We want to make it easier for someone looking for accommodation to discover the options available to them, understand what each property offers and connect with the people behind those properties. At the same time, we want to give Zimbabwean accommodation providers a platform that understands the environment in which they operate.
Our goal is bigger than simply creating a directory of properties. We want to build a trusted accommodation network for Zimbabwe. One that grows with the country’s tourism, business and property sectors and continues to improve by listening to the people who actually use it.
We know that building a local platform comes with responsibility. It means understanding the market, listening to hosts and guests, and being willing to improve when something does not work. That is the approach we want to take as LiteStay grows.
We did not start LiteStay because Zimbabwe needed another website. We started it because we believed Zimbabwe needed a platform that understands it.
